Viva Las Vegas!

Josh decided about two weeks ago that he and I needed to get away for a few days. We needed to get out of town and relax and get our minds off of everything. So while I was napping the day after mom's funeral, he booked us a trip to Las Vegas. Normally Vegas isn't the destination of people wanting to relax.... But the price was right!
So arrangements were made for the kids, and we were scheduled to leave last Wednesday evening..... At the same time an ice storm was headed to the metroplex. This is TEXAS people! Ugh. So I prayed-a lot. And apparently my new guardian angel pulled some strings and we got on our plane and took off just as the snow/ice was beginning to fall!
See ya later Dallas! (Technically- this is a picture of Albuquerque. But....it makes more sense to pretend it's Dallas for the sake of my story line. So we'll just go with it).
We arrived in Vegas late and got to our room at the Hard Rock about 9pm. We were worn out! In fact, we unpacked, walked downstairs and purchased a snack. This was our first night in Vegas.....
Yep. Party animals. That's us!
My sweet husband even called the desk and asked them if they had any firm pillows for me. Because I HATE feather pillows. Why do all hotels have to have feather pillows?? Anyway---
So with my new firm pillow, I fell asleep and slept like a ROCK until after 10am the next day!!!! It was amazing!!
On Thursday we just walked around. It had been a while since we had been to Vegas, so a lot had changed. It was nice to just "be". No worries. No responsibilities. Just us.
I even ran into Olaf!
After a nap, we headed back down to the strip to watch the nascar trucks in a parade. It was pretty cool.
I'm certainly not a nascar fan, but it was neat to see the trucks.
From there we headed to Freemont street. I love the atmosphere down there! But man- the freaks were out in full form! I don't remember so many nut jobs the last time we were there! Crazy!
Because- you can't go to Vegas without having a frozen drink by the foot! (Even though they always taste nasty- it's still something you gotta have!)
I wanted josh to get this hand! Lol! Not sure how we would have gotten it home though...
I love that guy.
From there we went back to the strip (via the longest bus ride EVER). Nothing beats watching the water show at night.
From there it was off to night number two of sleep! Yall, we did a ton of that! Sleep
Was our #1 goal. And we accomplished that!
Friday we decided to rent a car and drive to the Valley of Fire. It was beautiful! Pictures don't do it justice!
It was a relaxing day. We even found a quaint little cafe to have lunch at. SOO good!
After a nap (go figure) we decided to go downstairs. We were sitting at the sports bar enjoying a drink when this happened....
No. That's not my machine. That's Josh's. I lost exactly $100. In about 20 minutes. And quit. Luckily he made up for what I lost! :) This was the only time we even gambled.
Josh cashed out and we grabbed some dinner at the hotel (where I lost another $20. In like 5 minutes. Yep. I gave up after that! For good!)
Then we headed to see Bill Engvall! That was so fun! I laughed my tail off.
From there we went to a little piano bar at the New York New York. It was a FUN place! (And no- there aren't pictures of that. You can thank me later.) it was a late night. But we had fun! Even Josh said "you FINALLY relaxed and let your hair down."  Yes, I did. It was a nice change of pace after the stress of the last few months. I didn't know I needed to get away- but my husband did. And he made it happen. And I came home ready to enjoy my Spring Break with the girls.
No, getting away didn't solve all the problems. My Mama still isn't here. And I still miss her so much it physically hurts. But I was able to spend some much needed time with Josh. Just enjoying some us time that we hadn't had time for recently. I was able to relax and SLEEP. I came home refreshed and ready to spend time with my girls. They need some time with their Mama, too.
So- speaking of the girls..... What were they up to while we were gone?? Lots!
For starters, school got out early on Wednesday and was canceled on Thursday! That added a little stress to our trip! Because now someone had to keep them all day!
Brenna went to the Riley's on Wednesday and Thursday night. She and Carter had fun! They even camped out together upstairs!
(I'll be using this photo at their prom slide show!)
Macie spent the night at Aunt Emily's and had a blast with Wyatt! They also had a camp out together!
And they actually slept! I was shocked!
Since Thirsday was a snow day, Brenna went to Aunt Emily's so Sarah could go to work. I think they had a ball!
I loved Emily's caption on this picture.... "Excuse the mess, these children are making memories!"
Oh so true! Memories were made for them this weekend!
On Friday, after school, all 3 kids went to Aunt Kim's! I am not sure who had more fun....Brenna, Macie, Wyatt, or Aunt Kim!!! Pretty sure it was the latter. :)
They went out to eat....
Had several bubble baths....
Made Dr. Pepper cake.....
Ate ice.....
Had more tea parties than they could count (because Aunt Kim gives the BESTEST a tea parties!and apparently she was too busy being the hostess to take pictures!)
And played and ate until they were worn smooth out!
It was a fun weekend for all! Now I must go and continue reprogramming my children. That has to be done after 24 hours at Aunt Kim's. They must relearn that the world doesn't revolve around them and their every desire! Hahaha!!!!!
Thank you to all that made our weekend possible!! Now it's time to go enjoy Spring Break! It's sure to hold lots of FUN!!!!!
